Description

Super Junior (슈퍼주니어)
is a thirteen member Korean boy band under the SM Entertainment label and production agency. They debuted in 2005 with the single "TWINS (Knock Out)" as a twelve member group but added a thirteenth in May of 2006 with the release of their single U. Super Junior's popularity has spread across Asia and they have held concerts in such places as Thailand and Japan. Several of the members had previous jobs as VJs, actors and models previously, which helped to boost the group's popularity. Super Junior is composed of 12 Korean members and 1 Chinese member.

History
announced the formation of a 12 member pop group, the news was met with much speculation and rumor on the Internet. Many of the members chosen by SM were already well known for their other works such as Kim Hee Chul, Choi Shi Won, and Kim Ki Bum, who all had prior experience as drama and movie actors.

Super Junior first performed as a group on November 6, 2005 on SBS Inki Gayo, where they performed songs from their debut single, "TWINS (Knock Out)". Their debut single was released digitally on November 11th and their debut album Super Junior 05 was released in December. Soon after the release of their album, Super Junior collaborated with fellow SM Entertainment group Tong Vfang Xien Qi and released the single Show Me Your Love. At the same time Super Junior continued to promote songs from their first album.

On May 23, 2006, SM Entertainment announced the addition of Jo Kyu Hyun to the group. Now at an unprecedented 13 members, Super Junior relaunched itself with a new style and their first physical single, U three days later. U became Super Juniors' first number one hit. Super Junior has recently received much criticism for their large size and frequent use of lip-syncing but their large fanbase keeps the groups' sales up.

Special Units
Along with the regular 13 member formation, Super Junior has a host of special units. In November of 2006, members Kyu Hyun, Ryeo Wook and Yeh Sung debuted as the trio Super Junior K.R.Y. On February 23rd, 2007, another unit Super Junior T (Super Junior Trot) released a single titled Rokkuguh (Rock On). The mini groups are said to be SM Entertainment's attempt to not limit the members to performing as the large Super Junior group, which can be seen as many of the members have continued appearing as individual artists.

Accident and Aftermath
On April 18th, 2007 Super Junior members Lee Teuk, Eun Hyuk, Shin Dong, and Kyu Hyun were involved in a car accident. Kyu Hyun was severely injured and suffered from a fractured hip, broken ribs, and various abrasions on his face. He was discharged 78 days later on July 5th, 2007. Lee Teuk had glass impaled in his back and face and had operations to remove the glass done by a plastic surgeon. He will probably have operations to remove the scars at a later date. Eun Hyuk was also reported as having glass in his back, while Shin Dong walked out of the accident with only minor injuries. All activities were canceled for these four members. All the members, except Kyu Hyun, managed to attend the 2007 Hollywood Bowl appearance in the United States.

Second Album and Beyond
On September 20th Super Junior released their second album Don't Don!. With this release they launched their new, much harder image, including shaved heads, black clothing, and lots of hair dye. Their first single from the album, the song "Don't Don!" featured a violin solo performed by Henry Lau, a new SM recruit raised in Canada. For a while there was much speculation that Henry would be added to Super Junior. Instead it was announced that Henry along with Super Junior member Han Kyung would be important members of a new group Super Junior China, to debut early next year in China. SM further expounded on the fact that Super Junior's name should be considered a brand searching to unearth new talent worldwide. 1

From October to December Super Junior will be working on the project "Make the world a happy place with Super Junior" (슈퍼주니어와 함께 행복한 세상만들기) in which they will be participating and promoting various charity events including blood drives.

In early 2000, Park Jung-su was scouted by a talent agent in Myeongdong. He was asked to audition for the Starlight Casting System 2000, which soon signed him into SM Entertainment that same year. Park made an extremely brief cameo appearance in the MBC Korean drama All About Eve in 2000 and was also a model for Pepsi. He was then put into a five-member boy band along with his future Super Junior bandmate, Lee Dong Hae by his talent agency before this idea was dropped. Some of the names for this group were OK, Pricor and Smile. After he was put in Super Junior, Park wanted a stage name similar to Kangta and thus chose the name Leeteuk. Teuk, which means "special."

On November 6, 2005, Leeteuk as a part of Super Junior officially debuted on SBS's Popular Songs performing the group's first single "TWINS (Knock Out)." Being the oldest of the group, Leeteuk was chosen to be the leader of Super Junior, leading and guiding the group in media interviews and schedules. Since the debut of Super Junior, Leeteuk has been a regular MC for M.NET's M!Countdown along with Super Junior members Kang In and Shin Dong. However, since late 2006, Eun Hyuk replaced Kang Ins position. Along with Eun Hyuk, Leeteuk is also the DJ for KBS's Super Junior Kiss the Radio since August 21, 2006. Starting December 2007, Leeteuk became the host of his own show, Leeteuk's Love Fighter, a variety show of Leeteuk helping to solve troubled couples' problems.

In early 2007, SM Entertainment placed Leeteuk in a new six-piece subgroup of Super Junior, Super Junior T. Different from Super Junior's usual urban music style, the group specializes in singing modernized versions of trot, an old style of Korean pop music. On February 25, 2007, Super Junior-T debuted on Popular Songs with their title song, "Rogguguh". Super Junior-T released their first single, "Rogguguh" on February 23, 2007, ultimately selling 45,998 units by the end of the year, ranked as the sixteenth best-selling album of the year.

Leeteuk became seriously injured in a car accident at the morning of April 19, 2007 when returning home after a recording of Super Junior Kiss the Radio. Along with Leeteuk, fellow members Shin Dong, Eun Hyuk, Jo Kyu Hyun, and two managers also became victims. Although Shin Dong and Eun Hyuk suffered minor injuries, Leeteuk and Jo Kyu Hyun sustained more serious injuries, which required for the two be kept in the hospital for several more months. Leeteuk had glass shards embedded into his back and above his eyes and had a successful surgery of 170 stitches in removing most of them. Leeteuk was discharged out of the hospital on April 30, 2007. However, Leeteuk may still need further surgeries to remove or minimize the scars. Due to Leeteuk's fast recovery, he was in time to do a last-minute performance in Super Junior's debut film, Attack on the Pin-Up Boys (2007), playing the panda, who was originally played by Kim Ryeo Wook.

Kim Hee Chul was first discovered at Starlight Casting System 2002. Before he officially debuted as the member of Super Junior, he was put into a group with Kang In from Super Junior and Jaejoong and Yunho of TVXQ called "Four Seasons." They were to represent the four seasons of the year. The prospective group never saw light when the two members, Jaejoong and Yunho, became members of TVXQ which debuted in 2003. He still maintains a close friendship with Yunho.

Hee Chul made his first appearance on TV when he starred in the teen drama Banolim 2. He appears regularly on television through modeling, acting, and VJing. On November 6, 2005, Kim Heechul officially debuted on SBS "Inki Gayo" performing a song from Super Junior's first album, TWINS (Knock Out).

Aside from singing, he also began to appear on numerous variety shows such as Vitamin, Sponge, Xman and Love Letter, and also had one of the leading roles in the sitcom "Rainbow Romance". He can be seen in advertisements for various Korean brands and has been a substitute MC for Andy of Shinhwa on SBS "Inki Gayo" on numerous occasions.

Heebum is a russian blue cat was given to Heechul by a fan and is worth about $500-$800. The cats name was originally JaeHeebum but they added hankyungs name in.

On August 10, 2006 Kim Heechul was involved in a car accident while heading back to Seoul from Mokpo, where he went to attend fellow Super Junior member Lee Donghae's father's funeral. The tires malfunctioned while his car attempted to switch lanes. From this accident, he fractured his femur and sustained several other injuries. He had been advised to stop all activities for a period of 2 months.

Heechul's friend Yunho from TVXQ was poisoned by a female anti-fan. Heechul reacted to this event by criticizing the girl on his personal website and told them to come after him instead. They retaliated by promising to make him their next target for further violence and since Heechul is currently resting from his injuries, they are going to come after his close friends on Super Junior, Han Kyung and Kim KiBum.

Heechul came out of the hospital in September. He is now active again with his group Super Junior.

Han Kyung was discovered in 2001 at the H.O.T. CHINA Audition Casting 2001, where the competition rate was 3000 to 1. However, it was not until late 2003 or early 2004 when he arrived in Korea to receive private lessons in singing, dancing, and acting. It was not until a year later when he joined the other trainees in the company a year after that.

In February 6, Han Kyung officially debuted as a member of Super Junior. He is one of the few members of Super Junior who actively appears on variety shows despite problems with his Visa, which prevents him from appearing on certain programs. Many allegations have surfaced claiming that Han Kyung is of Chinese nationality but of Korean ethnicity. However, he claims to be full-blooded Chinese. Typical of the expectations of a Korean idol, he maintains a slim frame, standing approximately 6 feet and weighing about 66kg (145lbs).

He was featured in fellow SM Entertainment artist, Zhang Li Yin's music video Timeless with fellow Super Junior member Choi Shi Won.

Hankyung is the responsible member and cooks for the others and wakes them up sometimes. He gives all his money to his parents and bought them a dumpling restraunt. Because of his accent he was not able to have may singing lines.

Debut
In October 2005, Hankyung officially debuted as a member of Super Junior. As a foreigner in South Korea, he is only allowed to appear on 2 television stations (KBS and SBS), as stated by SM founder Lee Soo Man during a Harvard Korean Wave conference. He had originally signed with Mnet & KM. He is one of the few members of Super Junior who actively appears on variety shows despite problems with his Visa, which prevents him from appearing on certain programs.

During the first few month of Super Junior's debut Han Kyung was forced to wear a mask when performing on certain television station due to problems in his work visa, which allows him to appear on only a few Korean broadcasting networks (SBS, KBS). He is currently attending Central University for Nationalities in Beijing, China.

Hankyung will be debuting with fellow Chinese Henry aka "the violin guy" in china along with a few members who hasn't been chosen, is the new sub-group, "Super Junior China" they will be making some of Super Junior's songs into chinese version.

He started martial arts in high school and taught himself how to do nunchucks. Before the debut of TVXQ and Super Junior, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, and Xiah Junsu of TVXQ were meant to be in a R&B group called "Daeneb" (pronunciation), but it fell through.

Eun Hyuk was brought to the record label's attention by auditioning in "Starlight Casting System 2000" audition. They were also chosen to be on a show together called "Pop vs Rock" along with The TRAX members Attack, Typhoon and Rose. He is the DJ of KBS radio show Super Junior Kiss the Radio with Lee Teuk.

Eun Hyuk officially debuted as a member of Super Junior on February 6. He is also one of the few members of Super Junior who actively appears on variety shows, like Love Letter.

On August 21, 2006, Eun Hyuk debuted as a DJ for KBS Super Junior Kiss the Radio (a.k.a. Sukira) with fellow group member Lee Teuk.

Dong Hae is close friends with Yunho of TVXQ. He was put into a five member group with Lee Teuk before the debut of Super Junior, but it fell through. Choi Shi Won was discovered by the Starlight Casting System in 2003 and debuted as a member of Super Junior in 2005. However, he was first officially seen in a music video for fellow label-mate Dana when she was still a solo singer. He quickly emerged as one of the highly visible members, seen on many variety shows, although he has not been of the main vocalists.

Although his current focus is the group, Choi has also continued his acting career. Shortly after Super Junior's debut, he joined the cast for the Korean drama mini-series Spring Waltz. He has also been part of the epic film Battle of Wits with Hong Kong actor Andy Lau. Battle of Wits is a big budget film with joint collaboration from South Korea, China, and Japan, and was released in China and Hong Kong on November 23, 2006; it is due for release in Korea sometime in 2007. Choi has promoted the movie in China with a short tour of four cities at the end of November.

Choi is also a drummer, having performed with the band The TRAX in September 2006 on SBS's music show 인기가요 (Popular Songs), due to the fact that their drummer had left the band. Both The TRAX and Super Junior are part of SM Entertainment.

Choi Si Won has recently won the "Best Super Model Of the Year". Due to this winning, his popularity has risen up nearly three times. He has also won the " Sexiest guy in Korea" AWARD.

Kim Ki Bum is the second youngest member of Super Junior. Before his official debut, he had already appeared in drama "April Kiss" in 2004. He resided in the United States for five years and attended Paul Revere Middle School and Palisades Charter High School in California. He has an IQ of 138 as shown on the episode of Happy Sunday Heroine 6 on July 2nd, 2006. He has appeared in dramas Banolim #2 and Rainbow Romance alongside Hee Chul. He also stars in "Snow Flower" alongside Go Ah Ra. The role was originally made for TVXQ's Max Changmin, but he had to pull out due to their tight schedule.

Kim ki bum is a quiet and serious person. He is mature even though he is the second youngest and hardly laughs. The other members say that he is the good and innocent kid.

KYU HYUN

Kyu Hyun was added to Super Junior right before their 200th day Anniversary. He was discovered at a Chin Chin Singing Competition and featured in the video of a remake of TVXQ's song "Hi Ya Ya" with other Chin Chin idols. He is currently a Modern Music major at Kyunghee University.

Cho Kyu-hyun was discovered when he won third place at the 2005 Chin Chin Singing Competition. He soon signed under SM Entertainment and was featured in the video remake of Tong Vfang Xien Qi's single "Hi Ya Ya" along with other Chin Chin idols.

Kyuhyun addition to the group initially brought in an unpleasant surprise and dissatisfaction within the group's fans who supported the original twelve members, although his addition ended Super Junior's life as a project group and began its life as a permanent group. Kyuhyun was quickly accepted and acknowledged by the fans as a part of Super Junior

Kyuhyun made his barely acknowledged first appearance as a part of Super Junior in a news broadcast on May 23, 2006 when the group was introducing their comeback single, "U". Kyuhyun made his debut performance on May 26, 2006 at SBS's I-Concert performing the new single "U", which was also Super Junior's first performance as a permanent group. Towards the end of 2006, Kyuhyun, along with Yeh Sung and Kim Ryeo Wook, were placed in Super Junior's first subgroup, Super Junior K.R.Y.. The trio debuted in November 4, 2006 on KBS's Music Bank.

In the early morning of April 19, 2007, just one month before Kyuhyun's first anniversary in Super Junior, Kyuhyun, along with Super Junior members Lee Teuk, Shin Dong, Eun Hyuk, and two managers were involved in a car accident that occured when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it flipped onto it's side. Kyuhyun, who was sitting behind the driver's seat when the accident occurred, recieved the most injuries. He was hospitalized and diagnosed with a fractured hip, pneumothorax from fractured ribs, and facial scratches and bruises. He spent time slipping in and out of consciousness and was mute due to shock. Kyuhyun was in the ICU for a period of time, but after six days he was moved to a regular hospital room, unexpected of his fast recovery. Kyuhyun was discharged on July 5, 2007 after 78 days.

With the announcements of Super Junior's second album release in September, it was announced that Kyuhyun would make this comeback along with the rest of the members. Kyuhyun gave his first comeback performance after the car accident in April on September 21, 2007, performing the new promo-single, "Don't Don." However, Kyuhyun was still recovering from the injuries and was unable to participate in Super Junior's second album activities throughout the rest of the year.

Kyuhyun made his comeback variety show appearance on SBS's Star King with the other eleven members of Super Junior (but with the absence of Kim Ki Bum.) on October 13, 2007. He performed a duet, "A Whole New World", with the Filipina singer Charice Pempengco.
